New Med Energy, together with its partner Noble Energy, was the first company to commercially supply natural gas to Israel’s economy. In 2000, it became the first entity in the history of the Israel to establish infrastructure for power generation using natural gas in Israel [2]. Another entity, Avner Partnership, a subsidiary of Delek Group, was founded in 1991 by Dr. David Cohen, Dr. Eli Rosenberg (a geologist), and Gideon Tadmor.
Two years later, Delek Group established Delek Drilling. When Yitzhak Tshuva took control of Delek Group in 1998, Delek Drilling and Avner began collaboration, effectively operating as sister companies with the same operational areas and ownership structures. In 2017, Avner merged with Delek Drilling [3], solidifying Delek Drilling’s position as a leading exploration organization in Israel. The participating units in the merger were listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, making it one of the top ten largest trading entities on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange [4]. As previously noted, in February 2022, as part of a rebranding process, the company changed its name from Delek Drilling to New Med Energy. It currently holds a 34.45% stake in the Leviathan gas field, the largest gas field in the Mediterranean Sea.
